How to Land More Jobs Teaching Yoga
In the last episode of Full Time Flow, I shared my seven yoga teaching jobs and how they stack up in pay. Now, I’ll share more on how I landed those jobs and how I continue to find new teaching opportunities.
To be honest, this could be a very short episode because I can sum up how I got most of my jobs in one word: networking.
While I’ve had success simply applying with a resume and landing positions without knowing anyone, making connections has opened up far more opportunities for me. Many of my teaching jobs have come from connecting with other yoga instructors in my area—not just meeting them but letting them know that I’m looking for new opportunities.
In my experience, most yoga teachers are more than willing to help if you just tell them what you’re looking for. If there’s an instructor you admire or want to learn from, don’t hesitate to reach out! They might not respond, but you never know who might say yes to grabbing coffee.
The more connections you build, the more likely you are to be in the loop when new opportunities come up. And if you know someone who already works there, your chances of being noticed increase dramatically.
So, what does networking look like in practice? Here are a few examples:
Attend yoga classes at a new studio and introduce yourself to the instructor after class.
Go to yoga and wellness events and meet people in the industry.
Join local meetup groups and engage with the yoga community.
Let your classes know that you’re open to new opportunities—word of mouth is powerful.
Stay connected to people from your yoga teacher training.
Meet a studio owner after class to express your interest in teaching opportunities.
I could go on, but you get the idea. Building your community will not only help you find jobs but might also give you a leg up in the hiring process.
That said, it’s important to network with genuine intentions. Focus on making real connections rather than expecting something in return. No one enjoys feeling like they’re being used.
Networking has been the most effective way for me to discover and secure new teaching opportunities, and I’m incredibly grateful for the supportive community of yoga teachers I’ve built along the way.
I’ve received many questions about landing jobs in yoga studios. In the next episode of Full Time Flow we’ll take a deep dive into the process of getting hired at a yoga studio.
